The Importance of owning a Website

Why is owning a website important?

There are several reasons as to why owning a website is important. These days, we still stumble across businesses that don’t have an online presence, which can be quite detrimental and destructive to revenue and sales.

Every day, small businesses across Australia are missing out on income, simply because they don’t have websites to prove their credibility.
Every business these days should have a website and here are a few reasons why.

#1 – Your competitors most probably have a website.

If you don’t have a website, your competitors could be winning sales from you without you knowing!

This is quite a frightening thought when it comes to sales and revenue.

If you don’t have a website and have ever thought to google your line of business, you’ll probably find all of your competitors online. If seeing all your competitors online shocks you, then imagine the valuable sales they have taken from you over the years.

#2 – Having a website can increase productivity and reduce calls.

One of the reasons that a lot of businesses have websites is to provide existing customers and clients with information. Having a website will increase your productivity and reduce your calls, as a lot of answers clients are looking for when calling you would be on your website, if you had one.

Research has shown that most people will usually jump onto Google first before calling, so just imagine the amount of phone calls you might be able to reduce with a website.

#3 – Have you ever used Google to look for a company or business and found out they don’t have a website and second guessed whether you should use their services?

Having an online presence can certainly prove your credibility as a business. You’d be surprised at the amount of people who use Google to look up businesses and decide against using their services because they don’t have a website. This usually turns into loss of business for those that don’t have websites and business gain for competitors.

Research also proves that banks often search for your business online and visit your website to help make decisions on commercial loans.
Having a website will help you prove that you are a credible business and mean business.

#4 – You’re advertising 24 hours a day, 7 days a week!

How often do you shop online or search for services after hours or on weekends, when you have finished work for the day or week?
Most people would probably answer this question with “all the time”.

Having a website will increase exposure to your business to those looking to purchase your products or seeking services after hours, which is when most people have time to sit down in front of their computers and use Google.

If you’re selling products, you should definitely have a website with a shopping cart, as most people shop online during the weekends or after hours. Having a website for you, will only increase your sales!

Even if you’re not selling products and are a service-based business, most people will have time to read through your website after hours. They will be more likely to submit enquiries by email after hours when they have time as well.

#5 – Professional Email Addresses.

Included in website hosting normally is the setup of professional emails, such as yourname@yourcompanyname.com.au. If you currently use emails like @gmail.com, @yahoo.com.au, @bigpond.com, you should probably be rethinking this decision.

Even though you only need a domain name registered these days with email hosting to have your own company email addresses, it’s a good idea to invest in a website to go with your domain name, as a lot of people you email may often type the domain name into their browser to look up your website.

#6 – Showcasing recent projects in an online portfolio.

If you are a service-based business, you should have a website to showcase an online portfolio, as this will increase business and show your credibility to potential clients.

Before you go, do yourself a favour. If you don’t have a website and have one developed!
