A computer virus is a computer program that can replicate itself and spread from one computer to another. Sometimes it carries a payload to cause data loss or compromising your PC.
Malware includes computer viruses but also includes computer worms, ransomware, trojan horses, keyloggers, most rootkits, spyware, dishonest adware, malicious browser helper objects and other malicious software.
Worms can exploit security vulnerabilities to spread through computer networks, while a trojan is a program that appears harmless but hides malicious code within. Malware may harm computer performance or data and may have symptoms noticeable by a user. Many, however, do nothing to call attention to themselves and mearly replicate.
