Successful Facebook Marketing

If you have been actively following our tech tips or blog, you would have come across one we released in May called “10 Ways to Promote your Business Online“, where we mentioned that Facebook is a good place to start in conjunction with business promotion. Today, we wanted to delve a bit further into successful Facebook marketing for your business, as there are a few keys to success on how you can effectively drive traffic to your Facebook page and website, in order to convert sales.

These days, if you don’t have a Facebook page for your business, you definitely should, as Facebook has been known to drive traffic to websites for the last few years. Given that some businesses have a Facebook presence with barely any activity on their pages and others don’t have a page at all, we wanted to explore the benefits of having an active presence on Facebook.

#1 – Facebook Updates

One mistake that a lot of businesses make is signing up for a Facebook page and updating it once or twice and never updating it again, making the business look as though it isn’t trading anymore, given its activity on Facebook.

This can be quite harmful to your business, even if you didn’t think it was. Sometimes it can deter sales, as those who see and visit your Facebook page may think that your business is no longer operational or getting any sales for a reason or another, particularly if your website doesn’t have a blog or a news section that is never updated.

Some businesses say that they aren’t sure what to post about, hence the reason they never post. There are always topics to post about, and we mean ALWAYS! Even if your business doesn’t have any new products, services or any special deals to promote, we can guarantee you will be able to find articles to share. As you share articles that are interesting, others may also share your posts with friends, who can be potential clients or customers for you.

Along these lines, one thing to remember is that you don’t always have to have your own content to post, as this does get time consuming and not everyone running a business has time for this. So, if you really aren’t sure what to post about, sometimes having a quick look through Google News or YouTube, in your field of business or industry will give you a few articles or videos to share. Even general business articles that are of interest to you or your business, may be of interest to your audience. Even if this is an article you’ve spent a few minutes reading, it can be shared. When you share articles or videos, it’s usually pretty easy to put together a quick spiel summing up the article to share with it, so your audience know what it’s all about.

When posting articles, you may like to use a website like bitly.com to shorten your URLs for your audience, so that you can place more text in your updates, as standard URLs are quite long.

#2 – Ratings (Combined with Updates) on Facebook

A lot of potential clients or customers these days often look at businesses on Facebook to see what sorts of ratings they have, as active Facebook users tend to provide reviews on Facebook for businesses. If you never update your Facebook page, giving it the impression of in-activeness, your customers or clients won’t be inclined to leave their reviews either. In mentioning ratings, make sure you encourage your clients to leave reviews on your Facebook page, as this is a key to success these days.

#3 – Hashtags on Facebook

If you don’t use hashtags, then you should be! If you aren’t really too familiar with these, head over and have a read on our blog titled “The Almighty Hashtag“.
A few reasons as to why you should be using hashtags are:

  1. Each hashtag on Facebook is clickable, meaning that if you have posted something with the same hashtag as another public post on Facebook, then your article may show if a viewer is reading another blog with your hashtag, should they click on the hashtag. This will often drive traffic to your website.
  2. Each hashtag on Facebook has an exclusive URL, so people who are quite active on Facebook can often visit the URLS to see if there is anything new posted on the hashtag or any products they are interested in posted under that hashtag.

#4 – Facebook Comments

Inspire your followers to comment! You may even like to add a few words after an article you’ve shared, like “Tell us what you think”, which can get comments moving. To get conversations flowing, encourage a couple of existing friends to leave comments. The more comments you receive and reply to on your page, the better. When you receive comments, make sure you reply as soon as you can, so you don’t forget, otherwise you will look like you’re not engaging with your audience.

#5 – Facebook Header Image and Profile Image

Make sure you have a striking header image for your Facebook page, and use your logo in your main image. If you can’t design your header image and don’t have something striking to use, have a chat to your web or graphic designer about what you can do, as they are the experts.

#6 – Facebook Advertising

If you have just setup your Facebook page and don’t yet have a very large audience and want to promote your page to increase your followers and conversions, it might be worth looking into Facebook Advertising to help gain some followers. Facebook is usually pretty good with displaying ads relevant to users. Advertisers or businesses are required to define who they want to market to, based on age, gender, location and keywords. The cost of a single click can range between $0.16c – $1.00 per click. Facebook gives you the option of choosing daily budgets and you will be given options to endlessly run ads or stop ads at any time. More information about advertising on Facebook can be seen here.

#7 – Promotion of your Facebook Page

Before you go, we wanted to remind you to promote your Facebook page to existing clients/ customers to encourage more followers!

This will usually involve:

  1. Placing your Facebook URL on your website, so anyone who stumbles across your website will be able to follow your page, or view reviews.
  2. Placing your Facebook URL on the bottom of your newsletters and email signatures.
  3. Placing your Facebook URL on any marketing material you print or hand out, including business cards and brochures.
